In Ferreira de Pantón, south of Lugo and in the heart of Ribeira Sacra, is this large stone manor house. It is located on a hill next to the church.
The mansion, which needs to be reformed in depth, has an area of 300 m2 for each of its two floors, that is to say: 600 m2 in total. Its beautiful wooden beams are in good condition, but the rest of the elements of the house need to be rehabilitated.
High ceilings and many windows make the interior very bright. In its large yard of 2,000 m2, which used to be an orchard, you will find the typical Galician stone oven and a shed.
It has a wide side door that once was used for the entrance of horse carriages and today serves as vehicle access. It also has a cellar, something that can not be missing in a large property of Ferreira de Pantón, in the center of such an important wine area … It is also located next to a trout stream where you can practice fishing.
All this set is located just 400 meters from the town of Ferreira de Pantón and in an exceptional place framed within the Ribeira Sacra de Lugo.
Ribeira Sacra could be defined as one of the best kept secrets of interior Galicia. Integrate this destination a set of 21 municipalities of the south of the province of Lugo and the north of the province of Ourense, with the fluvial course of the rivers Miño, Sil and Cabe as an agglutinating element. The Ribeira Sacra offers a wide variety of recreational and gastronomic experiences, and a wide range of local products of the highest quality distinguished with guarantee marks of their origin.
The wine is the hallmark of the Ribeira Sacra. The production of this drink, as well as the cultivation of the vine, was introduced by the Roman colonists in these lands more than two thousand years ago. Later it was the Christian monks who took over from this activity and nowadays its production continues to be the economic engine of the region.
In the elaboration of the wine, the varieties of godello, albariño and treixadura grapes for white wines and mencía, brecellao and merenzao for red wines stand out. They are mainly young wines, although vintage red wines are also produced.
Wine lovers have in the Ribeira Sacra a paradise from which to make a lot of profit, since they can make guided visits to wineries, wine tasting and learn about the production of the wines. In addition there are also places like the Monforte Wine Museum or the Vinobus, which offer other ways of approaching this world.
