This house in Mondoñedo is a typical example of the architecture of this northern town of Lugo. Located 20 minutes from the coast, Mondoñedo is the most important town in the Mariña Lucense. Its relevance within the Northern Way of Saint James has been crucial for centuries. And as a town and region, suffice it to say that -until 1833- Mondoñedo was a province within Galicia, apart from Lugo.
A house in Mondoñedo with more than 100 years
Located in the heart of Mondoñedo’s Historical Centre, and at a short distance from the Town Hall and the Cathedral, this house was built around 1900. The house is made of stone, brick and wood and is in perfect condition: very well cared for. As a detail, it has new all the exterior wood carpentry with double glass climalit, as well as the slate roof that has been completely reformed recently. It has four floors. A total of 228 m2 of useful area.
There are four floors, including attic and ground floor, in which there is a commercial space, with an independent access from the street, which could be converted into a garage. Or in a commercial space, given that many pilgrims pass through the street where the house is located, stopping in the city of Mondoñedo, before continuing their journey towards Santiago de Compostela. On this ground floor, there is also a room that serves as a storage room and a wood storage room for the kitchen.
On the first floor there is a kitchen that combines the traditional wood-burning stove with the modern glass-ceramic hob. Next to the kitchen, we have a beautiful classic dining room. From there you can access a small garden, where you will find an enclosed area with the heating boiler and the diesel tank.
On the second floor, the house has three double bedrooms with their corresponding classical wardrobes in solid wood, a complete bathroom and a room used as a sewing room, with the old machines typical of this trade.
Finally, on the third floor (under the roof), there are two more rooms, a recently refurbished bathroom with toilet and washbasin, and two attics with lots of light and plenty of space. This distribution would allow the house to be extended to a total of seven bedrooms if necessary. Of course, this house has all the services: electricity, water, telephone. This house in Mondoñedo is sold furnished.
There are subsidies from the IGVS (Galician Institute of Housing and Land) in the collaboration agreement with the Mondoñedo City Council, for the rehabilitation of houses in the Historical Centre, and this house is within the rehabilitation area of the Mondoñedo’s Historical Centre.
