Friol, large Manor House, 16 Ha estate. 1066

445,000

This Manor House of Friol is a typical example of that agricultural nobility that embodied its wealth in farms, houses and religious buildings. The stone walls that surround this property contain several buildings. Three independent stone houses, a typical Galician chapel, also made of stone, from 1872. In addition, four barns, some transformable in housing, and an excellent horreo. In total, about 1,300 m2 of buildings forming a beautiful group, at the foot of a road with little traffic. The three houses that make up this property are: the main house, its annexed house, and what the owners call the apartment. Almost 160,000 m2 of pure nature. This property is located in beautiful countryside near Friol and has no direct neighbours. Several streams delimit the property, a small old stone watermill sits on one of them.

Description

Near Friol, Lugo, a municipality of about 4,000 inhabitants, on the banks of the Narla River, we find this magnificent property. Friol is located in the region known as Lugo e A Terra Chá, a region that is basically flat and very green. Hundreds of pazos (Galician rural palace) from different ages dot these meadows and banks, as stone landmarks that tell us of a former splendid rural life. The lands of Friol are the place of passage of the Camino de Santiago, the so-called Camino del Norte, on its way to Sobrado dos Monxes.

From the Roman period, a milestone was recently discovered, which supposedly marked the distance to Lugo. Among the many gastronomic events that take place in Galicia, Friol offers us the Cheese Fair accompanied by Ousá bread. The municipality has a privileged natural environment. Close to the river Narla, is the Fluvial Club, with several sports facilities among a wide wooded area. The offer is completed with the recreational areas of Carballo and Miraz.

A 150-year-old manor beside Friol

This Manor of Friol is a typical example of that agricultural nobility that embodied its wealth in farms, houses and religious buildings.

Many square meters to enjoy

In the main house, there are seven bedrooms, a living room with lareira (the traditional Galician countryside kitchen), a large kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a toilet, a magnificent stone staircase and several storage rooms. It has about 220 m2 in each of the two floors and could be inhabited immediately with cosmetic reforms. The annexed house has two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, a kitchen and several spaces that could expand the occupancy capacity of the house. It has approximately 100 m2 on each floor. It needs a non-structural reform but in-depth. The third house, the apartment, has three bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. Its surface area is 117 m2 per floor, the ground floor is currently a diaphanous space. These three buildings are made of stone, although one is externally clad in cement.

The other buildings

First, the stone chapel of the nineteenth century, which is a very unique building. Its structure has been recently renovated and restored to its original splendour. Also to mention the typical Galician hórreo (Galician granary) that, although in disuse, it is conserved in perfect conditions. In front of the main house, we find a stone granary (alpendre in Galego), with an area of 82 m2, where there are a traditional stone bread oven and another lareira. It could also be transformed into housing. There is also a large 216 m2concrete store (the only building that is not made of stone) which is used as a garage and workshop. In addition, there is a 62 m2 stone woodshed, larger than some city apartments … All these buildings are in good condition.

Almost 160,000 m2 of pure nature

This property is located in beautiful countryside near Friol and has no direct neighbours. Several streams delimit the property, in fact a small old stone mill sits on one of them. This mill, together with the chapel, is what confers the category of Pazo to the property. Additionally, there are also three wells inside the farm, two located in the cornfield area and another in front of the main house. Honouring the region where it is located, A Terra Chá (The flat land, in English), this plot of land is quite flat with some small elevation. The majority is prairie land, pasture, although there is also an area of cultivation and beautiful forests.

We are facing a truly exceptional property. You do not need to have a lot of imagination to see clearly the diversity of possible uses that offers. In other words, it depends on the vital objectives of each person, their budget and their tastes what fate ultimately reaches.
