Las Medulas is a region located in the west of the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, very close to Galician Orense border. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1997. Its extraordinary and spectacular landscape, formed by incredible promontories of reddish sands, chestnut and oak trees, attracts thousands of tourists in all seasons.
There, in the surroundings of Las Medulas, you will find Casa do Louteiro, a unique and original rural space, full of harmony and calm, dedicated to rural tourism. Comfortable yet rustic rooms make this the perfect place to enjoy a holiday or a short break at any time of the year.
The tourist complex
The complex is made up of two stone buildings. One is fully restored and working and the other is being renovated. The total surface area of the restored stone, wood and slate building is 349 m2. It has two floors of 167 m2 and 182 m2. There are a double room, a triple room and an apartment, with independent bathrooms and their own entrances. There is a living-dining room with a bar and an adjoining space where the lareira (the traditional open fire kitchen of the area) is located. There is also a small, simply equipped kitchen, which can be extended. And something different in a rural house: a forge-museum and a small ethnographic museum.
The building under restoration has a surface area of 210 m2 on two floors. There are three rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. Once the renovation is finished, an additional bedroom could be added.
The property has mains water, electricity, sewage, telephone and internet. It is sold furnished.
The garden surrounding the buildings has a surface of 2,461 m2 and walking through it is like entering a fairy tale. There are numerous trees, an original natural pool-pond, gazebos, a horreo (the typical old granary of the area) and a wooden hut. There is also an adjoining car park for five cars and another one a little further away, for seven vehicles. All set in the magical atmosphere of Las Medulas.
The house is located in the village of Orellán, with an extraordinary location and excellent views of the Aquilian Mountains, with their peaks close to 2,000 m high. The wolves and golden eagles still live there. The numerous rivers are home to otters and desman (Galemys pyrenaicus). The property is located six kilometres from the centre of the Natural Area of Las Medulas. Ponferrada, the capital of the Leon region of El Bierzo, with its more than 3,000 inhabitants and all the necessary services, is just 20 kilometres from the property.
