Riotorto is located in the Mariña Lucense and less than 20 minutes from the coast of Lugo. There is this stone hamlet or farmhouse, where you can dream next to the sky, with spectacular views. The land belonging to the property has an area of 37,350 m2 in total.
Two-storey stone house of 90 m2 each, 180 m2. It was built about 150 years ago. With recent slate roofing. It is in good state of conservation, although it would be necessary to reform in specific points.
The distribution of the house is described below. Ground floor: a large kitchen where the typical Galician iron stove is kept. A very large stable that could easily be transformed into a large living room with a fireplace. A toilet could even be added. On the first floor, we have three bedrooms, a large living room, a small bathroom and a small room that could be a dressing room. There is also a large attic on the second floor. Because of its surface and height it could be converted into a third floor. Or used as a large storage room, study, gymnasium… The ceiling and the floors, in a noble way, are fine. It has electrical installation, water and telephone, now disconnected for lack of use. In this house some reforms would be necessary.
House of two floors in stone, about 130 m2 in total. The ground floor was a stable in the past. The upper floor was used as a barn. This building could be reconverted into two apartment houses of 65 m2 each. Or in a set of complementary rooms.
There is also a stone bread oven of approximately 20 m2. In this same oven there is also a large space that can be used both to “knead the bread, prior to baking”, and to act as a woodshed and even store some gardening tools.
And a horreo, the typical Galician granary, which preserves its shape, structure and primitive materials.
An old laundry room, attached to the main house, could be converted into a wonderful outdoor Jacuzzi or sauna, with views of the valley.
The property where this Riotorto farmhouse is located is actually two plots of land. A main one on which the house sits with 34,500 m2. And another one of 2.850 m2, separated from the main property by a path, which is surrounded by a stream. The land is very fertile, suitable for planting any type of ornamental plant or fruit trees. Totally protected from the north wind. In addition, we must point out the permanent existence of water that flows all year round from natural sources on the property. The hamlet is relatively isolated, with privacy guaranteed: the nearest house is about 250 m away. However, the access is perfectly conditioned in asphalt.
The Riotorto hamlet will be ready for use after some repair work and other cosmetic touches. Or to carry out a complete reconstruction, and transform it into an exceptional building complex in an unparalleled environment.
