San Mamede da Torre is a village only 3 km away from Taboada, an important town in the Ribeira Sacra of Lugo. The proximity of San Mamede to several large towns in the area, with more than 2,500 inhabitants each, ensures that all services are available. The wonderful region of the Ribeira Sacra is home to impressive natural and cultural attractions. It is one of the most visited territories of Galicia and with a great future.
It is a large stone house. Adding its two floors, it has a total area of 379 m2. The ground floor is practically diaphanous, except for an old kitchen, where we can see a granite sink in one piece. The rest of the space is available to do whatever the new owners wish. From the outside there is access to a central covered patio. In it we find some stairs that lead us to the upper floor.
Here, on the upper floor, is where the house is actually located. It consists of four bedrooms, one of them with a dressing room. A living room with a fireplace. A bathroom and the old kitchen which, given its large size, allows the preservation of the traditional structure, with its wood cooker, but also the necessary modern equipment. The bedrooms and the rest of the house are decorated with a touch of warmth, through its large aluminum windows enter much light.
Outside there’s a nice garden that’s pretty well maintained. It has about 1.000 m2 of surface, approximately. In it, apart from beautiful ornamental trees and other native ones, we can see several buildings. A magnificent horreo (the typical Galician granary); an open barn with beautiful granite columns; and the facilities of the old stable. To get an idea, the total built area, including the house, is 652 m2.
As a curiosity, we have to mention that there are -only in Galicia- 99 parishes named after San Mamede, a Christian martyr from the 3rd century. If you decide to visit this property, it is best to arrange a visit so as not to get confused with San Mamede .
