The hostel “El Beso” is just in front of the Camino de Santiago Francés, in Triacastela, Lugo. The name (The Kiss) is no chance. Its owners wanted to show their love for Nature. But also his love and hospitality with the pilgrims. And so they have been running the hostel, with good results, just over six years.
An ecological corner in Triacastela
El Beso consists of a stone house of 250 m², with a land area of 5,000 m2. Inside the land, there is a wooden house that the owners use as a home while the main house is used as a hostel.
The main house has a large bedroom which, in winter, is used by the family and in the rest of the year, from April to October, it is used by pilgrims. In a large room, there are up to three tables for meals and breakfast. It also has a cafeteria that caters to pilgrims who pass right by this house. A wood stove gives a warm and cosy atmosphere to this part of the house. This stove is quite careful with the environment. It consumes much less firewood than normal and the smoke it produces is not polluting. And yes: it warms up the entire stay perfectly. The building has a large access door to the back vegetable garden.
Regain strength and continue …
There is a traditional wood stove where you can cook and also heat water. With the installation of hot water pipes that circulate throughout the house, the walls are heated and damp is avoided. The hostel is authorized for 16 bunk beds. All of them are built in solid wood and hand made by the owners. In the sleeping area, where ten bunk beds are located, there is a cold shower, a hot shower, a toilet and a sink. Communicate with a large warehouse. From there, some stairs go down to another space where we find six bunk beds for extraordinary cases. For example, when there are peaks of the influx of pilgrims who, by the way, here have a direct entry door from the Camino de Santiago. In this area of the six additional berths a shower, a bar, another toilet and a washbasin are under construction.
Respect for the land
El Beso is located 1.5 km from Triacastela, approximately. An impressive forest surrounds the property and is declared as ecological. And the farm itself, with the horticultural production that is obtained in it, is also declared as ecological. With these products, among others, the vegetarian meals that are served here are prepared.
