The watermill of the Fervenza: where the Salgueira and the Porto Salgueiro rivers join their courses in the parish of Brañas, in the municipality of Toques, A Coruña. Together they form the beautiful River Furelos. It flows through altitudes above 500 meters.
As it passes through the aforementioned parish, the river rushes down an almost vertical wall of approximately 40 meters. It is not a problem for the Furelos River, which jumps over it in the form of a beautiful waterfall and then slides down the valley again. The waterfall is of great beauty throughout the year, but in times of rain its appearance is extraordinary. It is the Fervenza de Brañas.
Next to the waterfall, an old partially restored watermill, the “Muíño da Fervenza” (Waterfall’s Watermill in English), used its waters until the 1970s. Its fame was such that even people from other remote areas where there were also mills, they approached it to test the fineness of its grinding.
Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the province of A Coruña and in the interior of Galicia.
The one in Toques is a stone watermill with a tile roof. It is made up of a central rectangular building, a window with a lintel and a hipped roof. It has an annexed aisle with a sloping roof and a window also with a lintel, where the irrigation of the mill circulates. It also has another small shed attached to the front, with a sloping roof. On the other side of the driveway, a stone shed, with a sloping roof, whose purpose was to house pack animals to transport the mills.
Its total area is 177 m2. The property is completed with a 5 hectare plot of land.
This Molino de Toques is located on the lands of the Primitive Way of St. James, which runs only 12 km. In the waters of the Furelos River, which runs through the property, it is possible to fish for wild trout.
