This house in Mondoñedo is a typical example of the architecture of this village in the north of Lugo. Located 20 minutes from the coast, Mondoñedo is the most important town in the Mariña Lucense. Its relevance in the Northern Way of St. James has been crucial for centuries. And as a town and region, suffice it to say that -until 1833- Mondoñedo constituted a province within Galicia outside Lugo.

A house in Mondoñedo more than 100 years old

Located in the heart of the historic centre of Mondoñedo, and at a short distance from the Town Hall and the Cathedral, this house was built around 1900. The house is made of stone, brick and wood and is in perfect condition: very well cared for. As a detail, it has new, all the exterior carpentry in wood with double glazing, as well as the slate roof which has been completely renovated recently. It has four floors. A total of 228 m2 of useful surface. There are four floors, including attic and ground floor, in which there is a commercial space, with independent access from the street, which could perhaps be converted into a garage, or commercial premises, given that the street where the house is located, many pilgrims who stop in the city of Mondoñedo, before continuing on their way to Santiago de Compostela. On this ground floor, there is also a room that serves as a storage room and a wood store for the kitchen.

On the first floor there is a kitchen that combines a traditional wood cooker with a modern ceramic hob. Next to the kitchen, we have a beautiful classic dining room, from which there is access to a small garden, where there is an enclosed area with the heating boiler and the gas-oil tank.

On the first floor, the house has three double bedrooms with their corresponding classic solid wood wardrobes, a complete bathroom and a room used as a sewing room, with the antique machines typical of this trade.

Finally, on the third floor (under the roof), there are two more bedrooms, a recently refurbished bathroom with toilet and washbasin, and two attics with plenty of light and space to be used. This distribution would allow the house to be extended up to a total of seven bedrooms if necessary. Of course, this house has all the services: electricity, water, telephone. There are subsidies from the IGVS (Galician Institute of Housing and Land) which has a collaboration agreement with the Town Council of Mondoñedo, for the rehabilitation of houses in the Historic Centre, and this house is located within the rehabilitation area of the Historic Centre of Mondoñedo.
