Arcade, a step away from the Ría de Vigo

The most famous oysters of Galicia, and perhaps of Spain, are bred in Arcade. This property that we reviewed is 8 km from the coast approximately. The river Verdugo after crossing the 41 km that has its channel, ends at the estuary of Vigo, between the nuclei of population of Arcade and Puentesampayo  (in Galician, Pontesampaio) joined by a beautiful medieval bridge of Roman origin.

For many, the name of Arcade is inescapably linked to that of their oysters: the “Arcade oysters”, delicious mollusc appreciated already in the Roman era and that is currently the object of an active export. There are hardly any natural oyster beds left; which we can take today are the product of cultivation. They were not born here, but they have been made here. But it is growing in the waters of the Arcade estuary, over two or three years, which gives them that special, unmistakable and unique flavour that delights the most demanding palates.
